Media Theory

Plot 

As I have mentioned before, I have chosen to do the coming-of-age genre for my project. I watch a lot of coming-of-age movies, so I have a general idea of what a coming-of-age movie is supposed to look like and what things are supposed to be included in these movies. The media theory that I am going to try and integrate into my project is going to be character vs. Self. Since coming- of- age movies are all about the characters trying to figure out who they are as a person I thought it was perfect to select character vs. Self. 

An example of character vs self can look like having an insecurity, the main character in this project is going to have many insecurities but no one knows about them and to everyone she comes across as perfect but, behind closed doors she has many insecurities that no one knows about.  

I think using character vs. Self is the perfect media theory for this project because it fits exactly what the main character is going through. Many popular coming-of- age movies also incorporate character vs. Self media theory into their films many people might not realize it. 

Some characteristics that fit into the character vs. Self category are internal struggles, emotional struggles, and growth and change. My plot line for my project fits into character vs self because the main character is going to be going through all these things as if she's a teenager.
