The filmmakers point of view

                        Filmmakers POV

I've always wondered how filmmakers get to the conclusion of their decisions for their movies especially big decisions that can make or break a film.

Challenges

In the book "To all the Boys I loved Before" the three sisters are Asian American and the filmmaker wanted to stay true to the book. The filmmaker found some trouble in the casting aspect because Jenny wasn't going to make the movie unless they stayed true to the ethnicity of the three girls. In order to cast this film they has to borrow from other Asian cultures, the filmmaker was very happy about the fact that when the movie first came out people supported it and that people supported the film for doing their best in regards to ethnicity. Susan Johnson said it was very difficult making choices since the fanbase is so big and vocal about this film and novel.

Behind the scenes

When being a filmmaker its a lot of researching. The cast needs to be researched, the genre, the story and the actors. Important skills to have as an filmmaker is figuring how to collaborate with people, get along, and take constructive criticism.

Filming

To film "To all the Boys I loved Before" took about one month, from July 5th to August 4th. The film was filmed in Canada. The entire process of getting the film rights to be able to release the movie took around 4 years.
